From weddings to the Women’s Euros, summer party season is in full swing.
Whether you’re throwing a big summer soiree or small get-together, we have the perfect pick-me up cocktail for when your guests.
What better than an ice cold, smooth Espresso Martini, with our own Ueshima Coffee Japanese take on this party classic of course!
We’d recommend using our strongest blend, the Fuji Mountain, for that bold flavour.
But if you’d rather something a little more balanced, our House Roast and Tokyo Roast will work perfectly too.

Some more Japanese variations you could try..
-
Replace sake with umeshu (plum wine) for a fruity, slightly sweet flavour.
-
Add a dash of yuzu juice for citrus brightness.
-
Edible gold leaf on the rim of the glass provides for an elevated party serve and is a nod to the Japanese art of Kintsugi.
Instructions:
1. (Optional) If opting for our edible gold leaf rim, prepare the glass rims before shaking the cocktail.
2. Brew the espresso and allow it to cool to room temperature or chill slightly in the fridge.
3. Add a handful of ice into a large cocktail shaker (or mixing jug if making in bulk).
4. Next into the cocktail shaker, combine:
-
-
Espresso
-
Sake
-
Coffee liqueur
-
Simple syrup
-
5. Shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds to create a foamy top.
6. Strain into chilled coupe or martini glasses. For a party, serve in small glasses or sake cups for a stylish twist.
7. Garnish with 2-3 coffee beans.
Our Party Prep tips
-
Pre-batch all liquid ingredients (except ice) in a pitcher and keep chilled. Shake with ice per glass or in small batches just before serving to maintain the frothy top.
-
Why not offer a garnish station so guests can customize their cocktail? We’d recommend some traditional edible Japanese flowers as a unique and beautiful garnish option.
-
And to keep our heritage theme going, serve light Japanese snacks like edamame, shrimp chips, or yakitori skewers.
